Mosaics, Caltagirone, and Island of Ortygia Orientation

Road of the writers->

A sign along the road on the way to see the mosaics at Villa Romana del Casale, features the places lived and loved by Sicilian writers and those described in their novels. See Sicilian Writers in the Agrigento section of Rick Steves Sicily book page 192 in the one published April 2019.

Villa Romana del Casale

On the walk into the Villa a sculpture is displayed by Polish artist Igor Mitoraj. Elevated walkways throughout the villa allow one to look down and view the mosaics. This makes it a bit hard to take clear pictures.

Torre di Renda, farmhouse lunch

Caltagirone Pit Stop

Enjoy the climb of the 142 steps, the decorations are based on typical Sicilian motifs that go from the 10th to the 20th century.

Orientation walk

Stephanie did an excellent job of providing the group with a quick orientation of the areas that we would be staying. This prepared us to go explore on our own. Pictured above are sites we saw on the walk; Fountain of Diana; Siracusa Cathedral; and City hall.

Schiticchio Pizzeria

We wanted something to split, and it had been a couple days since we had pizza. Enjoyed the salad with oranges, olives and fennel.
